Wayne Potash and the Music Fun Band Bio

Leading camp sing-a-longs for kids was Wayne's favorite thing about his first summer job in New York. He played guitar in high school rock bands, and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston where he also enjoyed doing volunteer work playing music for young children. As a full time musician playing in all kinds of bands after he graduated, he continued working with youngsters and began giving concerts for families with young children.
“I was working three or four nights a week with my rock band X-Dreams and teaching music and movement classes at a bunch of schools in Boston when I got a job at Intermedia Studios on Newbury Street. A year later, Intermedia was bought by The Cars. I was then hired by Heart Punch Studio where I engineered and produced dozens of local bands. A client hooked me up with the Community Music Center of Boston where I became a part-time elementary school music teacher and guitar instructor. I was always looking for great songs that connected with the kids, sometimes adapting rock songs and writing new ones.”
With lots of encouragement from kids, parents, teachers, and his family, Wayne went on to record seven albums. “The beauty of working with children is that I know which songs are keepers before I record them,” says Wayne. “The classic songs I always have in mind are The Beatles' Yellow Submarine, Peter Yarrow's Puff the Magic Dragon, and countless Pete Seeger recordings. Kids and parents love and never tire of them. Wayne puts on dozens of concerts throughout New England at events like Boston Harborfest as a solo artist, and with his Music Fun Band every year.

Jeff Keithline plays upright and electric bass with the band. Jeff has played with Tom Waits, Canned Heat, Tower of Power Horns, Dave Mason, James Cotton, James Montgomery, Bruce Millard, Larry Young, Men In Volts, and many others. He had a single in Billboard's Hot 100 and has released three solo albums. He's a fantastic player and he has a great sense of humor. You can hear him making everyone laugh on the live version of Penguins Attention on the new album.
Amy Basse is the group's incredible fiddle player/singer/performer. Amy has been a longtime mainstay of the Boston Irish music scene, much in demand as a band member or leader of traditional seisiuns. Among those with whom she has performed onstage are Tom Rush, Lori McKenna, Aoife Clancy, and Robbie O'Connell. She just got married and moved to Florida, but returns to New England for the band's summer shows.
Paul Sedgwick is an award winning banjo player who also sings, plays ukelele, spoons, and didgeridoo. “Paul and I are buddies from way back,” says Wayne. “He's an award winning bluegrass banjo player and he's a published playwright for kids. He's nearly done with his first full length book for teens and from what I've read, it's awesome.”
Jordan Potash plays keyboard and is a junior at Berklee College of Music where he majors in Film Scoring. He is was the drummer for the Gold Medal State Champion Oliver Ames Jazz Band. He's performed at the Hatch Shell in Boston and won first and second place at the annual High School music competitions at Berklee College of Music. On stage Wayne's son Jordan also sings, plays percussion, guitar, accordion, and the melodica.

“Nearly half of the songs on the new album are already concert favorites," says Wayne. "We're really looking forward to playing many of the new songs at Club Passim this fall. It is such a wonderful venue for families and children with its rich musical history.”

Wayne lives with his wife Sherrill, their two boys Noah and Jordan, and Jimmy and Missy the cats, in Easton, MA.
